Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
Areas students actually take rooms in, with the buildings closest to each one. Matched by location, so a building appears under the area it stands in rather than the area its marketing claims.
The corridor both universities sit on, Manchester Metropolitan at the city end and the University of Manchester further down. It carries one of the densest bus services in Europe, which is why living along it works without a bike.
Towers and converted mills, with Manchester Metropolitan's All Saints campus at the southern edge. Centre prices, but the tram network, Piccadilly and most city services are close at hand.
Immediately west and south of the Oxford Road campuses and routinely overlooked, which can keep rents below the busiest student streets. The exact walk or bus route changes quickly across these two areas, so check it from the building rather than the district name.
Immediately south of the universities along Wilmslow Road, with late-opening restaurants and food shops around the Curry Mile. It sits between the campuses and Fallowfield on the main bus corridor.
Where most Manchester students move in second year. Shared houses rather than blocks, the university's Fallowfield halls at the centre of it, and 20 minutes by bus or 15 by bike up Oxford Road.
Places students in Manchester actually use. We have no arrangement with any of them.
Open around the clock in term on the University of Manchester campus. That matters more here than most places, given how far the halls spread down Oxford Road.
The stretch of Wilmslow Road between the campus and Fallowfield, lined with curry houses and grocers and open very late. You will walk it more often than you expect.
The students' union venues on Oxford Road. Most touring bands that play Manchester play one of the four rooms here.
One of the busiest bus corridors in Europe runs from the city centre past both campuses and on to Fallowfield and Withington. A room anywhere along it is effectively on a campus shuttle.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Manchester makes more sense when you picture a line running south from the city centre along Oxford Road. Manchester Metropolitan's All Saints campus sits at the northern end, the University of Manchester continues along the same corridor, and Victoria Park, Rusholme and Fallowfield lie farther south. Choose against your own timetable before you compare gyms or cinema rooms. A building near the centre can put MMU within walking distance, while a room in Fallowfield gives you a stronger student neighbourhood but usually adds a bus or cycle to campus. The University of Manchester describes its own three residential zones as City, Victoria Park and Fallowfield, which is a useful way to read the wider private market too.
Room types, what bills included really covers, when to book, and what to check if you are arriving from abroad.

Bee Network buses carry most student journeys along Oxford Road and Wilmslow Road, while protected cycle lanes make cycling a practical alternative from Rusholme and Fallowfield. The Metrolink does not follow the Oxford Road university corridor; its south Manchester line runs separately through West Didsbury, Burton Road and Didsbury Village. Check the route from the exact building rather than assuming a nearby tram stop is useful for campus. Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Victoria stations handle longer journeys, and the Bee Network app combines bus, tram, train, walking and cycling when you compare routes.
