Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
Areas students actually take rooms in, with the buildings closest to each one. Matched by location, so a building appears under the area it stands in rather than the area its marketing claims.
The campus district four kilometres inland, almost entirely students, with modern blocks, low rents and the metro into town. Dull and cheap and five minutes from a lecture.
The old town round the cathedral and the Roman theatre, pedestrianised and beautiful, with small flats and the highest prices in the city.
West towards the airport, dense, local and inexpensive, with the Cercanias running through it.
Places students in Málaga actually use. We have no arrangement with any of them.
Public reading and study space near the historic centre.
The key connection from central Málaga towards the Teatinos university district.
Central covered food market close to bus and rail connections.
A shaded central park between the old town and waterfront.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Malaga's reputation is the beach and its university is nowhere near it. The Universidad de Malaga's main campus is at Teatinos, four kilometres inland to the west, purpose-built and surrounded by student flats, while the Mediterranean, the old town and the Picasso museum are all at the other end of the metro. That is the trade here: a room near teaching is cheap and dull, a room near the water costs more and involves a commute, and the city has grown enough in the last decade that both are in demand.
Room types, what bills included really covers, when to book, and what to check if you are arriving from abroad.
Comparing options? These are the other cities in Europe where most students on our shortlist are basing themselves.
Two metro lines run from the centre out to Teatinos and the university, which is the journey most students make daily and takes about fifteen minutes. EMT buses cover the seafront and the eastern districts the metro does not reach, and both take a student rate. Malaga is flat along the coast and the seafront promenade and cycle path run for miles in both directions, so a bike covers the eastern suburbs easily. Maria Zambrano station reaches Madrid in under three hours on the high-speed line, Seville in under two, and the airport is twelve minutes by Cercanias, which is unusually convenient for an international student.
