What to know before choosing a room in Dublin

Dublin asks two questions at once. The first is which campus: Trinity is in the middle of the city, University College Dublin is at Belfield to the south east, Dublin City University is at Glasnevin to the north, and Technological University Dublin is at Grangegorman to the north west. The second question is harder. Dublin has the least slack of any rental market on this site, purpose-built student housing included, and arriving without something arranged is a genuinely difficult position to be in.

Getting around Dublin
Dublin Bus does most of the work and the 39a and 46a to Belfield are the routes UCD students learn first. The Luas is two tram lines that do not naturally serve the universities, so check whether yours is any use to you before paying for a Leap card you will not swipe. The DART runs along the coast and is excellent if you end up living in Blackrock or Clontarf. Cycling is the fastest way across central Dublin and the canal routes are pleasant, though the city is less separated from traffic than Amsterdam or Copenhagen. A Leap card and the TFI Live app will between them cover almost everything.
