Frankfurt is the easiest city in Europe to arrive in and leave from. The airport is one of the largest on the continent and sits twelve minutes from the main station by train, which is itself a hub for the whole of Germany, and for an international student that convenience is worth something real. The Goethe-Universität has two main sites: the Westend campus, housed in a monumental former chemical company headquarters, and the older Bockenheim site nearby, with the science faculties out at Riedberg to the north.

Getting around Frankfurt
The RMV network covers U-Bahn, S-Bahn, trams and buses across the whole Rhine-Main region on one ticket, and the semester ticket included in most enrolment fees covers an unusually wide area, including trips well outside the city. Check what yours includes, because it is often more than people realise. Frankfurt is compact and flat, the Main riverside paths are good for cycling, and the city is small enough to cross on a bike in half an hour. Hauptbahnhof reaches Cologne in an hour, Berlin in four and Paris in under four, and the airport has its own long-distance station.
