Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
Areas students actually take rooms in, with the buildings closest to each one. Matched by location, so a building appears under the area it stands in rather than the area its marketing claims.
As close to University College Cork as it is possible to live, right where the Lee divides, and the address most of the newer blocks were built at.
The flat strip between the two channels of the river, with the English Market, the shops and the bars. Flats above shopfronts and a short walk west to UCC.
Climbing the north slope above the river, older and steeper, with the Shandon bells overhead and rents lower than the flat.
East along the water towards the old railway line, now a greenway running back into the city. Suburban, calm, and a cycle rather than a walk.
Places students in Cork actually use. We have no arrangement with any of them.
Public study space on Grand Parade in the centre.
Services connecting central Cork, UCC and western student neighbourhoods.
Central covered food market close to UCC routes and city accommodation.
Riverside public park beside UCC and the western edge of the centre.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Cork's city centre is an island. The River Lee splits above the city and rejoins below it, so the main streets sit on a flat strip between two channels with bridges at both ends, and the land rises steeply on either side. University College Cork is immediately west along the Western Road where the river divides, and Munster Technological University is further out at Bishopstown. That layout is why Cork walks easily along its length and awkwardly across it.
Room types, what bills included really covers, when to book, and what to check if you are arriving from abroad.
Comparing options? These are the other cities in Europe where most students on our shortlist are basing themselves.
Bus Éireann runs the city services and the 205 and 208 along the Western Road and out to Bishopstown are the routes most students use, with a Leap card for the fares. The city centre is compact and walkable along its length, but the north and south slopes are genuinely steep, so a flat-looking map is misleading. Kent Station is east of the centre, with Dublin about two and a half hours and the commuter line out to Cobh and Midleton. The Marina and Blackrock greenway is the pleasant traffic-free cycle, and Cork is small enough that a bike works well on the flat and poorly on the hills.
