Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
Areas students actually take rooms in, with the buildings closest to each one. Matched by location, so a building appears under the area it stands in rather than the area its marketing claims.
Across the road from the campus, the canal and the station, with most of the purpose-built rooms. Short walks to everything and the market on your doorstep.
Places students in Huddersfield actually use. We have no arrangement with any of them.
Public study space beside the university and town-centre cultural buildings.
A flat walking route through the university campus and east towards Aspley.
Central covered market close to campus and student accommodation.
Large public park west of the town centre and near residential student streets.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
The University of Huddersfield's Queensgate campus is built along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, a few minutes from the bus station and the market, which means the campus and the town are effectively the same place. Most of what follows is within a twenty minute walk of a lecture theatre. What the map does not show is that the town sits in a bowl in the Pennines, so almost every one of those walks is uphill in one direction.

Comparing options? These are the other cities in the UK where most students on our shortlist are basing themselves.
Huddersfield is a walking town for anyone living centrally, with the important caveat that the Pennine valley sides are steep and the return journey is the hard one. Huddersfield railway station is a few minutes from campus and its facade is the grandest building in the town by some distance; the line reaches Leeds and Manchester in about half an hour each way, which makes this a genuinely well connected place for its size. First and Arriva run the local buses up to Marsh, Lindley and Almondbury. The canal towpath gives a flat route out of town, which is the one cycling option that avoids the hills.
