Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
Areas students actually take rooms in, with the buildings closest to each one. Matched by location, so a building appears under the area it stands in rather than the area its marketing claims.
Wedged between Hanley and the Staffordshire University campus, which is why the students are here: it is the one address within walking distance of both.
The campus, the railway station and the older blocks. One of the six towns, not the centre of the city, and quiet after dark.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Stoke-on-Trent is six separate towns that were federated into one city a century ago and never really merged. Hanley is the commercial centre with the shops and the bus station, Stoke-upon-Trent has the railway station and Staffordshire University's campus, and Burslem, Tunstall, Longton and Fenton are strung out along the valley. So the city has no middle, and a room advertised in Stoke-on-Trent could be anywhere along several miles of it. Find out which of the six you are being offered.

Buses are the backbone and the routes along College Road and between Hanley and Stoke run constantly, which is what stitches the six towns together. Allow fifteen minutes between Stoke and Hanley. Stoke-on-Trent railway station is in Stoke town next to the campus, on the West Coast Main Line, with Manchester and Birmingham both around an hour and London Euston in an hour and a half. The valley means some of the connecting walks are steeper than they look, Penkhull especially. The Trent and Mersey canal towpath runs the length of the city and is the flat cycling route.
