Along the Forth below the castle, inexpensive and residential, with a flat walk into the centre.

A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Stirling University has one of the better-looking campuses in Britain and it is not in Stirling. The site sits two miles north of the city at the foot of the Ochils, built around a loch with a castle on the hill behind and the Wallace Monument above it. The city itself is a small historic burgh with its own castle, and between the two is Bridge of Allan, a Victorian spa village that has become the default student answer because it is walkable to campus and has a high street.

The 54 and the Unilink buses run between Stirling city centre, Bridge of Allan and the campus every few minutes in term, and the trip takes about fifteen minutes. Both Stirling and Bridge of Allan have railway stations on the same line, which is useful: Glasgow and Edinburgh are both around fifty minutes, and Perth and Dundee lie north. The land along the Forth is flat and the cycle route from the city to the campus is largely off road, though the Ochils behind the university are not for casual riding. Stirling is a genuine central base, which is much of why people choose it.
