What to know before choosing a room in Salford
A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Salford is its own city, not a district of Manchester, even though the boundary runs down the middle of streets in places and you can cross it without noticing. The University of Salford's main campus is at Peel Park beside the river, and the other thing that happened here matters for anyone studying media: the BBC and ITV both moved major operations to MediaCityUK on the Quays, which put a working broadcast industry a tram ride from the lecture theatre. Rents here sit below central Manchester while the tram makes both cities one.

Getting around Salford
Metrolink is the whole answer here: the Eccles line runs through the Quays and MediaCityUK into Manchester city centre, and the East Didsbury and Altrincham lines connect onwards to the Manchester campuses on Oxford Road. A student travelcard covers tram and bus together. Salford Crescent station sits beside the main campus with trains to Manchester in five minutes and to Bolton and Preston beyond. The land is flat and the Irwell and ship canal paths give traffic-free cycling from Peel Park down to the Quays in about fifteen minutes.
