No motorway reaches Norwich. It is the largest city in England without one, which is why it feels further from everywhere than the map suggests and why the place is more self-contained than most cities this size. Inside it are two very different institutions: the University of East Anglia, two miles west at Earlham, built in the 1960s as a line of concrete ziggurats stepping down to a lake, and Norwich University of the Arts, scattered through medieval streets in the centre. The gap between them decides where you look.

Getting around Norwich
The 25 and 26 buses run between the city and the UEA campus every few minutes and carry most of that university's students, with a journey of about fifteen minutes. Norwich is flat and compact, and cycling is genuinely the quickest way across it: the Marriott's Way and the riverside paths give traffic-free routes, and the Golden Triangle to campus is an easy ride. Norwich station reaches London Liverpool Street in about an hour and fifty minutes and Cambridge in an hour and a quarter. With no motorway, driving anywhere further takes longer than the distance implies, so plan weekend travel by train.
