Pick a university and see the buildings around it, with the walk or the ride to campus on every one.
Use these established student areas as starting points, then compare each property's rent and route to your university.
A city-by-city note about the decisions that change your daily routine. Prices and availability remain live in the listings above.
Gloucester's student choice is shaped by the gap between the historic centre and the University of Gloucestershire's Oxstalls campus to the north-east. Rooms around Quay Street, Kingsholm and the city centre keep shops, the railway station and bus interchange close, while Oxstalls requires a walk, cycle or bus. Start with the teaching location on your timetable: Gloucester and Cheltenham share a university, but they are separate cities and a room in one should not be treated as local to a campus in the other.
Room types, what bills included really covers, when to book, and what to check if you are arriving from abroad.
Comparing options? These are the other cities in the UK where most students on our shortlist are basing themselves.
Gloucester railway station and the bus station sit together on the eastern edge of the centre, which simplifies travel towards Cheltenham and farther afield. Local buses serve Oxstalls and the northern neighbourhoods, but compare evening and weekend frequency with your timetable. Central Gloucester is walkable and the canal paths provide flatter routes near the Docks; the final journey north-east may still be longer than the map suggests. If your course uses both Gloucester and Cheltenham sites, price the regular inter-city journey before booking.
